Holidaying in Scotland is becoming increasingly popular. Scotland has a great deal to offer holiday makers, whether it`s for a weekend break, or for a longer family holiday. As well as the highlands and beautiful countryside, there`s plenty to do in Edinburgh, which is the seat of the Scottish Parliament. Majestic Edinburgh Castle dominates the view and holds the Honours (The Crown Jewels) which are a great tourist attraction.
Breaks in Scotland
The rest of Scotland is a patchwork of beautiful countryside and fascinating attractions. Ayrshire & Arran is the region where you`ll find Burn`s birthplace, Dean Castle and a host of tourist attractions including trips on the P.S Waverley, the last seagoing paddle steamer still working. It`s a beautiful way to discover the lochs and rivers of Arran, Bute and Cumbrae.
Loch Lomond, The Trossachs & The Forth Valley region boasts many family attractions, such as the Blair Drummond Safari and Adventure Park, the Go Ape! Treetop Adventure Park and Doune Castle. There`s plenty to keep you busy if you enjoy museums and nature parks. You`ll find The Hill House in deepest Helensburgh, which is said to be one of the greatest examples of Charles Rennie Mackintosh`s designs.
If you love the world beneath the deep, then head for Fife. It is home to Deep Sea World and St Andrews Aquarium. For those who prefer their wildlife with fur instead of scales, there is the Scottish Deer Centre and Fife Animal Park. If you have animal crazy kids, Fife could be just the ticket.
Breaks in Edinburgh
Edinburgh is a great place for a weekend break and can also make a good base if you want to explore further. The city is bounded by the Firth of Forth to the north and the beautiful Pentland Hills to the south. The Firth of Forth is particularly important as a nature reserve and you can visit bird observatories and wildlife centers there, if this is an interest of yours. The city itself has many attractions. It is host to the famous Edinburgh Fringe, which sees the main street, The Royal Mile, packed with performers and audiences. If you plan to visit Edinburgh during the Fringe season you will have to plan ahead to book accommodation, due to the popularity of the event. The Military Tattoo also takes place in the summer in Edinburgh, so the city becomes packed again around this time. When getting from one of Edinburgh to the other, taxis may be your best bet in this tourist high-spot. A good service can be found at edinburghtaxi.
Hopefully our short guide Breaks in Scotland will give you some great ideas how to fulfill your holiday-time in Scotland. There are lots of to do there for everyone, just pick your favorite attraction, pack your staff and go!
