If you say New Zealand, most of the people imagine untouched mountains, millions of sheep or the movie Lord of the Ring. It is true, that the virgin nature is attracting tourists to New Zealand from all around the world. New Zealand Beaches are also worth of our attention. They have their own charm, wildness and they are good place to walk or chill out in New Zealand. Beaches in New Zealand are also habitat for many birds, seals, sea-lions and penguins. In this article you will find my personal choice of the best New Zealand Beaches.

Wharariki Beach

There is no wonder, that this beach is unofficially voted by visitors as the most beautiful beach in the World. Wharariki beach is very impressive with the undisturbed wildlife, caves and rock-pools. You can find it on the west coast of the South island, 30km from Collingwood. More About Wharariki Beach here.

Ninety Mile Beach

The awesome thing on the Ninety Mile Beach is, that you can drive the car there. The name of this beach is little bit misleading, because actually it is only 55 miles (88km) long. You will find it on the west coast of the far north of the North Island. One of the popular activities there is body-boarding on the sand-dunes of the beach. More about Ninety Mile Beach here.

Sandfly Bay Beach

On the very end of this beach you can find the wooden hide, build by department of conservation, to watch yellow-eyed penguins. The beach is also popular spot for sea-lions, which like to bask on the sand. Sandfly Bay Beach is located on the eastern side of the Otago Peninsula, 15 km east of central Dunedin. More about Sandfly Bay Beach here.

Anapai Bay Beach

Anapai Bay Beach is located at the northwest end of  South Island and access there is from Totaranui Bay. It is part of Abel Tasman Coastal Track. The whole area is known as Golden Bay, because the sand on the beaches has gold color. There is not a lot New Zealand Beaches in South Island, which offer great opportunity for summer holiday. The beach is ideal for sunbathing or swimming. More about Golden Bay here.

Galway Beach

The most impressive thing on Galway Beach are many waterfalls flowing directly on the beach. To get there, you have to take 2 hours walk from Gillespies Beach. The track lead thru old goldmine area and along the way you can see the bucket dredge, the Gillespie’s Lagoon and Miner’s tunnel. Galway beach is located on the west coast of the South Island close to Fox Glacier Township. More about Galway Beach here.
